The theory and applications of magnetism are covered including a history of magnetism, magnetism basics, experimental measurement of susceptibility, diamagnetism and paramagnetism, Van Vleck law, Curie law, TIP, Brillioun, g-anisotropy, zfs, spin orbit coupling, free ions vs metal complexes, the iron series and rare earths, magnetic exchange models (superexchange, direct exchange, Mc Connell model, spin polarization, RKKY, double exchange), long-range magnetic exchange, ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, magnetism in metals, and nanoparticles.
